Airstream Life is a print publication. Photos should be as high in resolution as possible, at least 1,500 pixels wide on their smallest side. For reference, file size should be at least 1 MB, though f ile size is not a true indication of resolution. Smaller files may not be printable.

We accept TIF and JPEG formats.

We will not use photos that have been altered in a way that doesn’t reflect reality. In other words, do not cut something from one photo and paste it in another.

We don’t accept AI-generated or modified photos.

We prefer to receive original photos and do any adjustments ourselves, but if you must, minor alterations—such as adjusting contrast, shadows, and saturation—are okay. Please use accepted image software to gently “fix” photos, such as PhotoShop or Lightroom. Do not adjust photos in your camera, which can render them unusable for printing.

We strongly suggest that you capture images with a digital camera that is not a cell phone. If you need to zoom closer to a subject, an optical zoom is preferable to a digital zoom. Digital zooms often result in unprintable photos.

PHOTO NO-NO’S

  • Compressing photos to transfer them to the magazine.
  • Using filters, such as converting to black and white, sepia, or other effects.
  • Watermarking your images.

Select a maximum of your 3-5 images per location or subject. No more than a total of 20 photos for a feature! If your article is shorter department piece, aim for about 12 photos max.

If there are images that you feel must be included in the layout, please be sure to say so in your photo log.

Your photo log should list each photo by file name, followed by who should get the photo credit, and then the suggested caption. For a template, please contact the magazine’s editor.

If you do not have a file labeling system, we suggest labeling your photos as follows:
Photo credit_Location or article name_Short description
