Defrosting Day

We got everything out of the refrigerator yesterday and turned it off for the first time since April, with a broom propped in the door to let air flow. A big chunk of ice had formed in the cooling coils of both the refrigerator and freezer compartments -- one of the hazards of full-timing, I guess. We did have a lot of humidity in Missouri which I'm sure contributed to that.

The ice chunks are now gone, and Eleanor has taken the opportunity to pull out all the refrigerator shelves and storage containers for a thorough cleaning in the sink. The aluminum of canned goods and ink from colored labels rub off onto the white plastic shelves during towing. (Aluminum rubbings are black, and look like mold.) All that is being cleaned off today.

It's a good time to relax and catch up on stuff like that. The weather even this far north is being affected by the remains of Hurricane Katrina, so we have high seas, clouds, and fog. Not much to do outdoors. I have been spending a lot of time thinking about New Orleans, a city I have spent a lot of time in, and wondering if the beautiful Garden District will ever be the same...
